Visual Arts (Design and Digital Presentation)
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
The focus in this lesson is success for all students. The students take part in regulating their own success by having the ability to choose their final theme.
This is also the section of the project that promotes engagement and enhancement. By the end of this lesson the students will have a firm understanding of how to use Web 2.0 tools in order to complete their Artist in Focus presentation.
GUIDED ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How can I present my findings in a clarified, entertaining, manageable way using a web based presentation tool?
INSTRUCTION AND ACTIVITIES
Part 1 (25 min):
Direct instruction: Activate Knowledge 10 minutes (Art Teacher and LMS):

Art Teacher will display a slideshow of chosen artwork on the Smart Board.

The teacher will first ask the students to have notebooks ready so they can write down thoughts about the shown resources.
The notes will help them determine their own choices for the future project they will complete. -
The teacher will have a brief overview of Renaissance, Impressionism and Twentieth Century art and how they each influenced the art world.

The three artists pulled from each time period as examples of influence are:

Leonardo Da Vinci and his drawings, paintings and inventions during the Renaissance period.

Claude Monet and the development Impressionism painting.
-
For 20th Century art, Helen Frankenthaler and abstract painting will be discussed.

The teacher will engage the students by using a number of different resources online and in print such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Website and the curated website created as a student resource, Symbaloo Curated Art Resource. Art genres, time periods, and artists will be listed and identified during lesson.

INSTRUCTION AND ACTIVITIES
Part 1:
Present Project Requirements
The project choices and elements will be presented again:
A) Create and document their own artwork influenced by the artist of their choosing.
Their presentation will need to include:

A brief summary as to why they chose this artist.

How their artwork influenced them.

Using a web based presentation tool, a description of the medium the artist works in as well as their chosen medium and how they differ avoiding plagiarism.

A final piece of artwork
A presentation such as Thinglink or Prezi is suggested as their web based tool.
B) Develop a presentation focusing on a well-known artist either past of contemporary.

A photographic documentation of artwork should be established within the presentation. A written documentation can be collaborated with audio to include:

A summary of the artist’s life.

The medium and style of their artwork.
-
How their artwork influenced the time period and impact on the art world.
-
Why this artist and their artwork influenced the student.
-
Siting Resources in order to avoid plagiarism
-
Using a web based presentation tool.
INSTRUCTION AND ACTIVITIES
Part 2:
Demonstrate!

Demonstrate and edit the Prezi and Thinglink examples.
-
Present the curated resources for Web 2.0 tools for the students to explore. (Curated Pearltrees Web 2.0 Tools).
-
Engage students by asking them to volunteer in editing examples within Prezi and Thinglink.
